News reporting
in the big data era focuses on timeliness and responsiveness to recipients’ unlimited
needs. Most news agencies compete to report the news by neglecting to verify
the accuracy of the information. This study found 8 types of news reporting that
affect news reliability: 1) news reporting that violates people’s privacy; 2) news reporting that intentionally creates
drama by presenting a suspect as a character; 3) news reporting in the form of
live broadcasting that obstructs the work of officials and causes harm to victims;
4) news reporting that is exaggerated and causes panic and misunderstanding; 5)
news reporting that is shared on social media without verification of the truth;
6) news reporting with click-bait headlines; 7) news reporting where the media acts
as a judge outside the courtroom; and 8) news reporting that is too emotional
and unfair and distorts the truth.
Therefore, journalists
must pay attention to the true value of journalism in maintaining news reliability, which consists of 5
components as follows: 1) accuracy of the information, 2) transparency, 3) balance/neutralization, 4) completeness
of the information, and 5) professionalization of news reporting.
