Abstract
Thailand
has enacted the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) to
provide equal protection of personal data rights to every individual. The press
may have the right and freedom to present news and opinions to the public as specified
by law, but any activities that violate personal data rights such as the
collection of personal data to make news without advance notification or the
distribution of other people’s personal data through media without consent,
causing damage to the data subject, may result in legal penalties for
non-compliance with the PDPA. The media therefore has to seriously study the
details of this Act and be more careful in producing news and screening
information before publishing it to the public.
