The objectives of this
research were to 1) study the employee motivation factors of XYZ coffee shop,
Living Mall branch and 2) study the approaches for motivating employees of XYZ
coffee shop, Living Mall branch. Using qualitative research method, according
to the phenomenological research approach. Data were collected by in-depth
interviews and documents study. Key informants were 15 employees of XYZ coffee
shop, Living Mall branch, divided into 1 branch manager, 3 assistant branch
managers, 5 branch staff and 6 part-time employees. Data were analyzed by
content analysis. The research results were found that the motivating factors
of XYZ coffee shop, Living Mall branch were 1) compensation, 2) skill
development, 3) meaning work, 4) working environment, and 5) performance goals.
Approaches for motivating employee consist of 1) internal motivation approach
by selecting employees and designing a valuable work; and 2) external motivation
approach that done through performance management, development of skills and
expertise in the job, creating a workplace environment, and using compensation
as an incentive and reinforcement.
